Tribute This!
A tribute album to an unknown songwriter? Sounds crazy, but who says it can't be done?

This unknown songwriter, Billy Franks, has been honing his craft for thirty years. You may be able to fit all of his fans in the world on a subway train. Fellow travellers might include three best-selling novelists, a member of the British Royal Family and the singer with the world's biggest rock outfit, but, even so, everyone would get a seat.

He has devoted his life to music, and has never been given the break that many know he deserves. Although this songwriter is content to simply produce the music he loves, regardless of record sales, we at One By One Films feel otherwise.

During the summer of 2005, an award-winning American film crew hoped to set right what they see as an extreme case of "unjustifiable anonymity" by asking some of the biggest names in music to make a tribute album to this unknown.

When completed, any and all proceeds from the album will go directly to the Youth Music Charity in the UK and to a similar charity in the U.S. There's no better way to market the album than to tie it to a feature length documentary that chronicles an independent film crew's seemingly outrageous quest to propose the idea to famous artists.

Armed only with the songs, the singer, an unwavering resolve, and a disarming sense of humour, these four friends traveled the world, and will continue their search this fall, to complete their quest.

Were some of the music world's great songwriters willing to recognize a fellow traveller?

Will members of rock royalty embrace a disinherited brother?

Or did an entourage of managers, publicists and security guards foil any attempt to even pose the question?

Continue to follow their adventures over the coming months, it could be quite something.
